20 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Logan
12. The Story Behind Zander Rice’s Hatred For Mutantkind
While Zander Rice was well-acted (courtesy of the talented Richard E. Grant), the manipulative doctor failed to serve as a compelling antagonist in the vein of Brian Cox’s William Stryker or Liev Schreiber's Sabretooth. This was due to being slightly overshadowed by Boyd Holbrook’s more entertaining Donald Pierce as well as his paper-thin characterization.
Despite being nowhere near the most layered villain in the X-Men franchise, one background detail about the character made him more interesting than he appeared on the surface. It turns out that Zander's father, Dale Rice, was present at the Weapon X facility and was killed by a disoriented Wolverine shortly after awakening from his now-iconic procedure.
While this is not revelatory storytelling, it works well enough to give Rice some motivation and ties Ol' Canucklhead's trilogy together in a neat fashion.
