3. Yukio's Vision Fulfilled

Logan may be as standalone as it gets (as far as comic book movies go), but that does not mean it disregards past films in the X-franchise. One particularly heartbreaking narrative payoff comes in the film’s final scene during the titular character’s emotional death.

Before his demise, the dying Wolvie held Laura’s hand in his and tried to comfort her and reassure her that there is more to her life than the violent reasons behind her creation. At a first watch it seems like a sorrowful end to the stalwart hero, but it turns out that it fulfilled a vision had by The Wolverine's Yukio a few years earlier.

The precognitive mutant saw Weapon X’s death and mentioned how he died holding his heart in his hand. Although at the time, it initially seemed like a red herring in the Canucklehead's second solo outing, it took on a new and emotional dynamic following Logan’s release four years later. James Mangold himself confirmed this shortly after the movie's release, showcasing the level of thought placed into Wolverine's overarching story.
