20 Things You Probably Didn't Know About The Godfather

6. The Guy From Green Book Makes A Cameo

The Godfather
Universal Pictures

Oscar-winning film Green Book centres around a bouncer called Tony Lip who's tasked with driving the pianist, Don Shirley, around the Jim Crow South in the early 1960s. Since Shirley was regularly threatened by bigots, Lip also served as the musician's personal bodyguard.

Even though Lip's time with Shirley was what he was best-known for, he was also an actor who appeared in a number of renowned films including Dog Day Afternoon, Donnie Brasco, Raging Bull, and Goodfellas. However, he got his start in the film industry by appearing in The Godfather.

After bumping into Francis Ford Coppola and the film's casting director, Louis DiGiaimo, they were won over by Lip's charm and charisma and agreed to put him in the movie as a wedding guest.
