20 Things You Somehow Missed In Alfred Hitchcock Movies

11. Racy Implications - North By Northwest

Hitchcock loved to insert hidden innuendos and daring visuals which he could craftily get past the censors. However, he couldn’t get away with one line of dialogue during the scene when Roger and Eve first meet on the train. Her original sentence was, “I never make love on an empty stomach,” but this was considered too risqué.

Actress Eva Marie Saint re-dubbed the line as, “I never discuss love on an empty stomach,” but you can clearly see her lips don’t match the words.

Hitchcock did get the last laugh, though, because the final frame of the film is a sexual reference. The concluding image is a train entering the tunnel, which serves as a visual pun for what Roger and Eve’s romantic plans for the evening involve.
