20 Things You Somehow Missed In Alfred Hitchcock Movies

1. Hitchcock Never Won The Oscar For Best Director

Here’s the shocking truth – Alfred Hitchcock, a pioneer of his craft who created some of the best films of all time, never achieved the Academy Award for Best Director.

The films Rebecca, Lifeboat, Spellbound, Rear Window and Psycho were all nominated for the Best Director gong, but respectively lost out to movies such as On the Waterfront and The Apartment. Rebecca did, however, win the award for Best Picture in 1941, and it remained Hitch's only movie to achieve that accolade.

It’s a disappointing detail within the realm of Hitchcock, but when you whittle down the facts, it does (somewhat) make sense. The majority of his pictures fell under the category of suspense thrillers, a genre which wasn’t very well accepted by the Academy back then.

Nevertheless, it’s just further proof that Sir Alfred Hitchcock was so ahead of his time and an innovation for the film industry.
