20 Things You Somehow Missed In Alien
15. Gender Natural
Initial treatments for the characters looked at ways of representing how society would function differently in the future. Most famously, scenes were written (and later deleted) suggesting that crewmates would regularly and casually sleep with each other in order to offset the loneliness of space travel, a concept that was better explored in Prometheus.
However, when fleshing out the characters for the Alien: Legacy release, Dallas and Lambert were both written as being transgender, with the suggestion being that reassignment was a far more common practice in the future. However, negative fan response to this saw it removed from their personal bios, but the worldbuilding remained by stating their genders were "natural" in the DVD menus.
