11. It Makes No Sense That Na'vi Females Have Breasts

As many scientists and fans alike have pointed out ever since Avatar's release, it doesn't really make any sense at all for the Na'vi females to have breasts, given that they aren't placental mammals.

But James Cameron was well aware of this, and had a blunt but basically perfect answer when grilled about it by Playboy magazine of all outlets:

"Right from the beginning I said, 'She's got to have t*ts,' even though that makes no sense because her race, the Na'vi, aren't placental mammals."

In an interview with the late James Lipton for Inside the Actors Studio, Cameron added that he gave Neytiri and the other female Na'vi more human sexual characteristics because "this is a movie for human people."

Basically, it was an important part of the audience's connection to the Na'vi that they could be attracted to them.

As much as James Cameron is a stickler for details, in this case he sacrificed scientific authenticity for the bigger picture: people need to find these characters sexy.
