20 Things You Somehow Missed In Blade Runner

12. Animals Are Extinct

Blade Runner
Warner Bros.

While it's not overtly stated in the actual film, there are a few clues dotted around Blade Runner that virtually all animals on the planet have died out. Making them, like any rare commodity, the preserve of the super rich.

The first major hint at this occurs when Deckard asks Zhora if her snake is real, to which she replies "do you think I'd be working in a place like this if I could afford one?". He asks Rachel a similar question about the Tyrell owl which, given the company's incredible wealth, could well be real but is told it isn't.
