20 Things You Somehow Missed In Die Hard

11. A Tale Of Three Johnsons

Die Hard Missed
20th Century Fox

Two of the most fondly remembered characters in Die Hard are FBI Special Agents Big Johnson (Robert Davi) and Little Johnson (Grand L. Bush) who make the most of their brief screen time. Coincidentally, this was the first of three films in which both Davi and Bush appear, the second being the following year's James Bond film, Licence to Kill (1989), and later Maniac Cop III: Badge of Silence (1993).

However, they are not the only Johnsons in this film; there is also a television news anchor named Harvey Johnson (David Ursin) who works alongside William Atherton's arrogant Richard Thornburg.

These various references to the name Johnson are all knowing nods to actor, Reginald VelJohnson, who portrayed John McClane's ally, Sergeant Al Powell.

Contributor

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
