20 Things You Somehow Missed In Die Hard
6. Anthony Peck's First Brush With John McClane
When John McClane is finally able to convince Sergeant Al Powell that there are problems at Nakatomi Plaza, the LAPD converges on the area.
One of the first on the scene is a sergeant played by Anthony Peck who tends to a wound on the side of Powell's head, before assisting him in setting up a perimeter, and mediating between Powell and Paul Gleason's panic-button LAPD Deputy Chief, Dwayne T. Robinson.
Peck (no relation to Gregory Peck), a frequent collaborator of director, John McTiernan, later starred in McTiernan's second outing in the Die Hard franchise, Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995) as NYPD Detective Ricky Walsh. Ricky has a good working relationship with John McClane in that film and the two joke about Ricky using his badge number as his lottery numbers. Sadly, Ricky is shot dead in the line of duty by Otto (Richard Council), who works for Hans Gruber's equally nefarious brother, Simon (Jeremy Irons). However, McClane later finds Otto posing as a cop and wearing Ricky's badge, causing him to smell a rat.
It is never revealed whether Walsh is meant to be the same character as had featured in the original Die Hard (although it could possibly be the case, given that McClane was revealed to have transferred from the NYPD to the LAPD in 1990's Die Hard 2).
