20 Things You Somehow Missed In Die Hard

5. These Are Very Bad Men

When the apparent terrorists enter Nakatomi Plaza from its parking garage, everything in the film is working towards showing that these are hardened, evil men.

Michael Kamen builds the music towards a crescendo, following Hans Gruber and his cohorts through the lower reaches of the building as they round corners in cold, concrete corridors, ready to hack into the building's systems and rig its roof to explode.

However, had John McTiernan not cut away at the last moment, he also would have shown one of Gruber's men walking headlong into a wall when he is meant to be heading through a doorway. Indeed, in the finished film, you can still see him start to flinch as he realises his dilemma.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
