20 Things You Somehow Missed In Gladiator
9. The Chariots In The Arena Battle Were More Than Horse-Powered
The arena battle where Maximus reveals his true colours as a general by directing his rag-tag team of gladiators featured an opposing team with several chariots. Like most of the film, it was beautifully and dynamically shot, making for quite a bloodbath.
Despite using horses to pull the chariots for the sake of the cameras, there was more under the hood of these two-wheeled vehicles than what was seen on screen. During a scene where one of the chariots goes off course and crashes into the wall of the arena, a cloth that had been covering the floor and back of the chariot flips up and you can clearly see a gas tank and piping.
It's a blink and you miss it moment, but after you notice it once you can never un-see it.
