20 Things You Somehow Missed In Inglourious Basterds

16. Landa Slyly Checks One Of The LaPadite Girls' Pulses

Give yourself a pat on the back if you managed to catch this one, because it's really subtle and quite brilliant.

Back to the opening sequence now, when Hans Landa takes a seat and one of the LaPadite daughters, Suzanne (Lena Friedrich), walks to move past Landa.

At this moment, he grabs her by the wrist and asks if she'd accommodate him by pouring him some milk. Pay close attention to Landa, though: he's actually grabbed Suzanne's wrist in order to slyly take her pulse and determine whether she might be lying.

Now to be fair, even regular folk not hiding Jews underneath their home might be rather unnerved by a visit from The Jew Hunter and therefore register a pounding heart rate, but even so, it demonstrates Landa's twisted genius in doing two quietly sadistic things at once.
