20 Things You Somehow Missed In Kill Bill Volume 1
5. "Go Home To Your Mother!" Is A Nod To Kurosawa
One of the funniest moments in the entire movie occurs when the Bride ends up facing off against an especially young, baby-faced member of the Crazy 88.
Rather than take his life, she cuts his sword down to size, spanks him on the butt with her own sword, and tells him, "Go home to your mother!"
This was actually a reference to one of Tarantino's favourite filmmakers, Akira Kurosawa, and especially his masterful 1961 samurai film Yojimbo.
In the film, ronin protagonist Sanjuro (Toshiro Mifune) similar slaughters a gang before sparing a young boy and telling him, "Go home to your mother and live a long life eating gruel." Amazing.
