20 Things You Somehow Missed In Layer Cake
4. A Significant Change To A Scene From The Novel
Jumping back into those alterations that would've been noticeable to those who had indulged in J. J. Connolly's novel beforehand but completely missable to the average fan only being exposed to XXXX's tale on the big screen, and to a scene that Sony probably felt was simply too controversial to retain in its original form.
The novel contains a moment involving Lucky, a sniper mate of XXXX, unintentionally taking out an American tourist in his attempts to pick off hitman Dragan. Likely feeling this wouldn't have gone down all too well with their audience across the pond, Sony Pictures requested for Connolly to alter the scene when the time came to jot down the screenplay for Layer Cake.
Sure enough, it's Lucky who is suddenly popped off instead by Dragan in the finished article, with Vaughn actually going on record in the film's commentary to say that he felt this moment was actually an improvement on that aforementioned novel development.
