20 Things You Somehow Missed In Never Say Never Again

6. M Is Actually Younger Than James Bond

When Never Say Never Again was being made, Bernard Lee, who had featured as M in the official Bond franchise had sadly passed away. Therefore, both the official Bond franchise and Never Say Never Again needed to cast a new actor as Double-0 Seven's superior.

Decades before Ralph Fiennes played an M who was closer to James Bond's own age, Edward Fox portrayed a significantly younger M in Never Say Never Again. He is almost seven years Connery's junior, but still manages to imbue his M with crusty authority.

Towards the end of the film, when M learns that Bond was right all along, he offers Double-0 Seven an opportunity to dine at his club. However, Bond (with Kim Basinger's Domino Petachi in his arms) politely turns the offer down, politely declaring that, if he survives his confrontation with Maximillian Largo, he may have other plans.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
