20 Things You Somehow Missed In Never Say Never Again

3. Connery's Then-Home On The French Riviera

It is often assumed that, given the palms, the pool, and the unbroken sunshine, the climax of Never Say Never Again takes place in The Bahamas.

However, this is not true. Connery was willing to make the film's ending an in-joke with Roger Moore passing his Bond in the street, merrily chirping "never say never again".

The suggestion of the two Bonds encountering each other onscreen was rejected, which is how audiences got the existing ending with Rowan Atkinson's Nigel Small-Fawcett trying to lure Bond away from his retirement with Domino Petachi whilst Connery winks at the camera.

In order to film this ending (and to likely avoid spiralling production costs), Connery granted access to filming at his then-home, Villa Le Roc Fleuri on the French Riviera.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
