20 Things You Somehow Missed In Pulp Fiction
5. When People Get Scared, That's When People Accidentally Get Shot
If you take the above statement, swapping out the word ‘people’ for the kind of expletive Samuel L. Jackson is widely known for saying, you get to what Jules said to Pumpkin and Honey Bunny when the latter shouted at him to let the former go. He got nervous, which would lead to his getting scared, and that’s exactly when people get accidentally shot.
It seems like a throw-away line only relevant for that one conversation, but maybe there was a deeper meaning to it. After all, very little in Pulp Fiction is said accidentally, and there had only just been someone who got accidentally shot. This was Marvin in the back of Jules’ car, when Vincent inexplicably shot him in the head.
There was no reason for this to happen, Vincent was a professional and knew how to handle a gun, there didn’t appear to be any bumps in the road, so maybe this is the explanation. Could Vincent have been scared?
Jules was certain he had just witnessed a miracle as four bullets that should have killed him missed. Vincent was adamant he was wrong, but maybe the thought that Jules was actually right scared him. It seems like too much of a coincidence for Jules to mention someone getting accidentally shot so soon after Vincent did just that to poor Marvin, so maybe there is a connection?
