20 Things You Somehow Missed In Solo: A Star Wars Story
10. Fair And Square
It's fair to say that if Solo had never been released or even mentioned, Star Wars fans would probably be just fine about it. It was an enjoyable enough movie, but it was completely unnecessary, as such a big part of the character's appeal in the original trilogy was down to the mystery surrounding the character.
Fans didn't need to see how Han came by his surname, and they didn't need a backstory behind everything he said in the original trilogy, but that's essentially what they got. All the way down to the exact words he used in a disagreement with Lando on Cloud City.
The friends/rivals had always disputed who the rightful owner of the Millenium Falcon was, with Han specifically telling Lando that he won it fair and square. Not just one game of Sabacc between the two was shown in the prequel, but two. The first Lando cheated to win, but by the time of their rematch, the hero of the story had figured out how.
This is why the words 'fair and square' were so meaningful. When Lando first beat Han it wasn't a fair game, so he made damn sure that the second one would be.
