20 Things You Somehow Missed In Solo: A Star Wars Story
3. Chewie Will Rip Your Arms Off
Throughout Solo,
there were almost too many callbacks to the original Star Wars trilogy. Of
course, a prequel of this nature was always going to have strong connections to
the movies it spun off from, but it genuinely seemed like every single hint to
Han's backstory or dialogue between him and Lando was given more context in
this movie.
This didn't stop with Han either, as of course with him was everyone's favourite Wookie, Chewbacca. There was even a scene that showed why Han called him Chewie, but there was also a callback, admittedly this one was great, to when Han's right-hand Wookie first met C-3PO and R2-D2.
Upon the Millenium Falcon in A New Hope, Chewie sat across the chess board from R2-D2, who was roundly beating him. Han warned that his friend could pull an arm out of its socket if he lost, and so 3PO famously told R2 to let the Wookie win. In Solo, there was another view of just how sore a loser Chewbacca is when he loses to Tobias Beckett, but this easter egg goes even deeper.
Later in the movie, during the heist of Kessel, Han and Chewie attack their would-be guards. In spite of the fact the man's uniform would have fit Han perfectly, the Wookie tore both his arms from his body, sleeves included without too much effort. Turns out Han wasn't joking when he warned C-3PO about losing a limb or two.
