20 Things You Somehow Missed In Solo: A Star Wars Story
19. Crimson Dawn Was Name-Dropped Early
Though the primary intention of Solo was to tell the story of a young Han Solo, and casually explain how making the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs makes sense, the movie from start to finish was basically all fan service. From revisiting moments mentioned in the original trilogy, to seeing Han and Chewie at the wheel of the Millenium Falcon.
There were plenty of references to the wider Star Wars universe, namedropping famous planets and characters and such, and though most could only be chalked up as fan service, some were actually important to the story itself. There was one such incident right at the beginning of the film, somewhat foreshadowing what was to come for Qi'ra once she was separated from Han.
Though the details are a little sketchy, thanks to a three-year time jump, Han's love goes from being trapped on Corellia to being one of Dryden Vos' most trusted advisors. The vicious leader of the Crimson Dawn was notoriously ruthless, as were the group themselves, and were on Qi'ra's radar well before she ultimately joined them.
As they were queuing to leave the planet, she warned Han of a life without the Empire's protection, and of the risk of being sold to either the Hutt Cartel or Crimson Dawn. Turns out the latter were dangerous even without leaving the planet, and it was telegraphed within the first ten minutes of the movie.
