While it may only occupy the atmosphere of Kamino for a few still rather captivating beats, it turns out that the great flying Aiwha has quite the history within this galaxy far, far away.

First being conceived by concept artist Ralph McQuarrie many moons ago when trying to figure out what beasties could be spotted amongst the clouds on Bespin in The Empire Strikes Back, budget restraints put a pin in its eye-catching usage for a time.

Subsequent pitches to have the air whales pop up in both Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace, acting as Gungan mounts in the latter's case, were then all passed up on before finally landing on bringing the majestic monsters into being amidst the choppy wave-filled Clone home world.
