Returning to those real-life sounds that formed the foundations for some of The Empire Strikes Back's most impactful noises, it turns out that none other than the most famous prison facility on the planet helped create one of the most intimidating big-bads in the galaxy's many unsettling moments.

When listening to the sound of the doors on Vader's star cruiser slam shut during Episode V, what you're actually hearing is the noise of an entire block of Alcatraz cell doors slamming with the flicking of one big switch.

This was reportedly captured by Lucas himself during a visit to the notorious prison, and it definitely helped add some extra real-world terror to the already formidable spacecraft.
