20 Things You Somehow Missed In The Big Lebowski

12. Symbolic Visions

The Dude's second dream sequence is filled will a plethora of visual references to earlier parts of the film, many of which are quite subtle: His absurd walking with his large shadow calls back to the interpretive dance sequence, the black-and-white flooring recalls his own entryway, the scissors held by the Nihilists can be seen in Maude's house, and a whole slew of other little cues, too.

Leave it to director of photography Roger Deakins, a legendary cinematographer in his own right, to help the Coen brothers realize their vision of dreamy, highly-stylized sequences overflowing with references and symbolism.
