20 Things You Somehow Missed In The Lost World: Jurassic Park
7. Those Redwoods Aren't From Costa Rica
With much of the Isla Sorna action brought to life in The Lost World being said to have gone down 207 miles west of Costa Rica, those who know a thing or two about the sort of plant life native to this part of the world were likely left scratching their heads a touch by the type of towering tree found in the habitat of the Stegosaurus and many other Site B beasties.
The reason for a redwood forest, not usually spotted around Costa Rica, providing the backdrop for some of The Lost World's pulsating set-pieces is down to Spielberg opting to shoot much of the flick's Isla Sorna footage in North California's Fern Canyon of Redwood National and State Parks as he aimed to bring a more epic and prehistoric look to the screens.
Costa Rice itself wasn't ever considered as a shooting location, mostly due to the fact that shooting would've had to have gone down during its rain season.
This familiar redwood backdrop was also utilised in Return of the Jedi, because nothing says cinematic quite like Redwood National Park.
