9 is a computer animated post-apocalyptic science fiction film directed by Shane Acker, produced by Tim Burton, and starring the voice talents of Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connolly, Christopher Plummer and Crispin Glover. It was released in 2009 to mixed to positive reviews and remains one of the best animations of the noughties.

Following a war between humans and machines, the world is destroyed and all humans are extinct. After the war, a ragdoll comes to life and finds himself in the company of numerous other living ragdolls, all of whom represent the different personalities of the creator of the world ending machines. In a broken world, the dolls join forces to destroy a Goliathan machine in hopes of living in peace.

9 is a visually captivating and often deeply emotional and action packed film, full of social commentary, great voice work (Reilly is a particular stand-out) and a simple but effective plot.

And at only 80 minutes, it's a film that doesn't hang around - it's full of good dialogue and character interactions, sure, but it flies by at break neck speed and is constantly brilliant.
