20 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Need To End Their Franchises
3. Toy Story 4
The Franchise: The jewels in Pixar's crown, the Toy Story franchise revolves around a gang of toys who are alive, but must hide this fact from humans, all while pondering their own fate as their owner, Andy, begins to outgrow them. The trilogy is one of the most critically acclaimed in cinema history, scoring 100%, 100% and 99% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, while the three movies have collectively grossed $1.95 billion at the box office. Sequel Status: The fourth movie was officially announced late last year for a June 16, 2017 release, with John Lasseter directing, Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (Celeste and Jesse Forever) writing, while the majority of the vocal cast are expected to return for what is rumoured to be a standalone follow-up focusing on a central romantic comedy element (possibly Buzz and Jesse?). Why It Needs To Be The Last One: Because the third one tied everything up perfectly, and this already feels completely unnecessary. If the movie is going to make use of Woody, Buzz and company again rather than just make another Toy Story movie with new, different characters, it absolutely needs to be the end of it. They've had three movies of excellence, and it will upset a lot of fans if these movies keep getting churned out just for the sake of money. How Likely Is It?: It depends on whether or not fans turn up for this one. They probably will even though they might hate themselves for doing so, but hey, maybe Pixar will pull it off. If it works, expect Toy Story 5 soon enough, given how much merchandise these movies must shift. 4/10.
