20 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Need To End Their Franchises

4. Insidious: Chapter 3

The Franchise: The supernatural horror franchise created by James Wan, initially revolving around a family haunted by demons. The first two movies grossed an impressive $258.5 million against a tiny combined $6.5 million budget, while a third film is also on the way. Sequel Status: The third movie (which is actually a prequel) is due for release on June 5th, with Saw star and writer Leigh Whannell writing and directing this installment. Angus Sampson, Whannell, and Lin Shaye reprise their roles from the previous films, while the remainder of the cast (including Dermot Mulroney) are all-new to the series. Why It Needs To Be The Last One: Because the first movie was fun and interesting, but the second was a lazy retread, and what's been shown of the third movie so far pretty much suggests the same. How Likely Is It?: These movies cost peanuts to make and are always going to recoup their budgets, so unless Insidious 3 somehow bombs catastrophically, it's really just the beginning, even if it seems that each movie might end up only tangentially linked to the first two. 3/10.
