20 Upcoming Movies With UTTERLY INSANE Plots
17. Dune: Part Three
Dune: Part Three release date: December 18, 2026.
If you thought the first two Dune movies were out there, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
Dune: Part Three will be based on Frank Herbert's follow-up novel Dune Messiah, and while we won't detail the particulars of the plot to avoid spoiling it for anyone unfamiliar with the book, it's safe to say that it's positively insane.
If it follows the basic structure of the source, Dune: Part Three will pick up years after the previous film, where the Fremen jihad in the name of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) has grown beyond his control.
To call Dune Messiah's narrative a bold swing is to rather understate the case, and it certainly presents a massive challenge for director Denis Villeneuve to realise its vision on-screen.
It's highly likely that Villeneuve and co-writer Jon Spaihts will make some alterations to the thornier aspects of Herbert's text, but even so, this is a much stranger, more polarising story than the original Dune, and should result in one of the boldest sci-fi blockbusters of the century so far.
