All Quiet On The Western Front set out to explore the effects of war on a young generation of soldiers, and was met with critical acclaim and Oscar glory upon first release. Shot in beautiful black and white, it features some of the most memorable scenes in all of war-based cinema. And the Nazis apparently hated it. Which is always good.
