6. Not In Kansas Any More...

Much like Biblical epics such as The Ten Commandments, The Wizard Of Oz was full of special effects that would utterly ground breaking for their era, thrilling audiences with never-before-seen visual treats. The switch from black and white to dazzling technicolour is probably the best remembered - besides the flying monkeys and Oz himself, anyway. But one of the more impressive tricks for a film made in 1939 was the tornado that whisked Dorothy and Toto away from Kansas in the first place. Which was created by twirling a lady's silk stocking around a fan whilst pumping in some smoke machines.
