3. Amputees Get Used For All Sorts

Like casting calls for fat or ugly characters who are intended to be the butt of jokes, being the person in charge of tracking down amputees for film work isn't an enviable position. But it has lead to some of the most convincing special effects in modern cinema. From the gory aftermath of the Saving Private Ryan battle to the doctor whose arms get chomped off in The Thing to the one-armed zombie in Shaun Of The Dead. All of them employed actors who had actually lost their limbs, and who are surprisingly okay with people making light of it, apparently.
