20 Worst Best Picture Film Nominees Since 2010

18. Don't Look Up

One of those movies that gets mixed reviews but still finds its way to a Best Picture nomination, Don't Look Up isn't quite the worst film in what is a mostly strong line-up, but it's probably the most inexplicable inclusion.

Don't Look Up is an entertaining satire filled with masterful acting, so it's worth seeing, but at the same time it's also a bit of a mess. It jarringly flip-flops between different tones and expects viewers to take it seriously even though it's so in-your-face and heavy-handed it makes The Purge look like a masterpiece of subtlety.

In the end, the movie shoots itself in the foot with a woefully misjudged ending that'll leave a bitter taste behind, so overall this movie really isn't Dr Strangelove-level dark comedy it so clearly wanted to be and it shouldn't have been anywhere near the Best Picture line-up.

Honestly, this movie was actually harmed by being nominated for Best Picture. Prior to this, it was a good viewing. After this ridiculously unearned nomination - which also took a potential spot from truly awesome movies like tick, tick... BOOM!, The Lost Daughter, Mass and The Last Duel - it's hard not to feel irritation towards it. Being nominated for the top prize really is a double-edged sword.
