20 Worst Moments In Wizarding World Movies

5. "Did You Put Your Name Into The Goblet Of Fire?!?!" - Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire

Harry Potter
Warner Brothers

You knew this was coming.

A moment so bad it became a meme, this is one of the strangest and most misjudged book-to-film scene adaptations in any of the movies. Here is the line from the book:

'"Did you put your name into the Goblet of Fire, Harry?" Dumbledore asked calmly.' Calmly.

In the film, Dumbledore yells the question to the extent that the words slur together and slams a frightened Harry against the display in the trophy room. This was so idiotic and over-the-top that it's unintentionally hilarious and doesn't feel like Dumbledore at all.

Michael Gambon was a brilliant Dumbledore overall, but he and director Mike Newell really misjudged this scene. Sure, Dumbledore could very well have been angry since he believed Harry, someone he cared for deeply, had put himself in danger by entering himself for the tournament but this still wasn't the right way to go. Dumbledore should've been quietly angry, not... like this.
