17. Star Wars - The Rise Of Skywalker - The C3PO Memory-Loss Subplot

In spite of what much of the internet will tell you, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is perfectly decent.

It's a visually stunning and reasonably moving final chapter for the Skywalker Saga which is the best film discussed on this list, but it does make quite a few narrative mistakes, no more so than this bizarre and bewilderingly pointless subplot involving the much-loved C-3PO.

While trying to find the still-alive Emperor Palpatine, Rey and co find a Sith dagger with text that C-3PO cannot translate as his programming doesn't allow him to translate the Sith language (terrible excuse), so they go to the planet Kijimi and get the Sith text retrieved from C-3PO's memory, which causes him to forget everything.

C-3PO losing his memory should be powerful but instead it's just used for some annoying comedy moments of C-3PO not recognizing anyone, while the memory loss is then magically fixed by R2-D2 even though the process had been described as irreversible.

The moment when C-3PO said he was taking one last look at his friends was powerful in the trailer, but in the actual film it was an annoying, superfluous and woefully misjudged bit of writing.
