20 Worst Movie Moments Of The Decade
11. X-Men: Dark Phoenix - The Sad End To A Once-Proud Franchise
The X-Men franchise was a reasonably consistent and thoroughly enjoyable series of superhero movies with an amazing cast, so it was heart-breaking to see it end so atrociously with X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
After a troubled production, Fox basically sent Dark Phoenix out to theatres to die, but even if the X-Men are soon to join the MCU, they should've put in more effort than this. The franchise's many fans, not to mention the X-Men themselves, deserved a better send-off.
It's hard to think of a worse franchise ending. Following a painfully dull finale on a train featuring both a bland villain from the normally-great Jessica Chastain and an atrociously-written conclusion to Jean Grey's Dark Phoenix arc (which is handled badly for the second time), the film's concluding scenes don't feel anything like an ending for such a big series.
Beast takes over the academy, Jean Grey flies through the sky as some weird phoenix thing and Charles Xavier and Magneto randomly play chess together in Paris and that's it. None of the characters conclude their stories in a satisfying way and nothing feels closed at all.
Let's just hope no other superhero franchise ever ends this badly.
