For some reason, Taxi Driver screenwriter and occasionally talented director in his own right Paul Schrader decided that he wanted to make a movie with Lindsay Lohan it in, and hey, why not have pornstar James Deen to co-star alongside her? The result of that pairing is The Canyons, which has the usually unpretentious Schrader veering into pretentious waters. It's very rare nowadays that you can say Lindsay Lohan wasn't the worst bit about something, but here it's true. The plot concerns a love affair and the sh*t that goes down as a result of that, but Schrader's direction is oddly amateur and The Canyons never quite feels like a proper movie. As something to ponder, it's arguably interesting - but that's after you've seen the movie, separated from the act of actually watching it, which isn't a nice experience. In fact, we suggest you just read Stephen Rodrick's article about his time on set during the making of (vastly superior in every way).
