20 Worst Movies Of 2016
10. Alice Through The Looking Glass
Here it is folks - the product of the unfeasibly large box office returns of Tim Burton's not entirely awful but certainly not great Alice In Wonderland live action original. Because that movie made so much, a sequel was inevitable, even without Tim Burton stepping back into the director's chair.
The problem there was that even with poor execution, the idea of Tim Burton's visual imagination adapting something as fitting as Lewis Carroll's material was a genius one, and that's where the first film soared. It just fell down pretty much everywhere else, with hollow, unlikeable characters populating a perfectly observed world.
The sequel seems to have been driven by a manifesto to take all of what made the original work and dialling it up to 11 - more zaniness, more cookie world building, more awful characters, MORE JOHNNY DEPP CARICATURING HIMSELF... And somewhat predictably, the only thing it delivered was a monumental headache and less than $300m at the box office.
