20 Worst Movies Of 2016
11. Zoolander 2
Zoolander was not the absolute comedy triumph it seems to have become thanks to the weight of nostalgia behind it since its release, so it shouldn't have come as too much of a surprise that its follow up would disappoint. Even worse, it was so belated that pretty much all of the issues dealt with in the first film felt completely out of place, but at least they were apparently going to tackle that issue head on by having Zoolander become a relic in an industry that no longer recognises the old ways.
Except they did so in the most painfully unfunny, wholly unsatisfying way that it makes you wish they just hadn't bothered at all. In seeking a new modernised story, they effectively threw out everything that made the original so popular, relying instead on an endless procession of hollow celebrity cameos that fail to raise more than an eyebrow of recognition.
Ben Stiller shouldn't be doing this sort of thing in 2016: he's a serious director and a talented one at that, and returning to pick at the carcass of a dead property will only affect your reputation in a bad way. Just ask Billy Bob Thornton.
