20 Worst Movies Of 2016
3. Suicide Squad
1255786Suicide Squad might well be the most disappointing film of the year: it was supposed to be the wildcard addition to the DCEU that would launch it to the stratosphere after two divisive (but financially lucrative) first outings. The trailers were all great, promising a swaggering, outrageous left-field property that was nothing like what had come before and which was demonstrably free of the Snyder-like darkness that had made Batman v Superman such a slog.
But then in reality, the film was one of the most painfully obvious examples of studio meddling there has ever been: the tone was wildly all over the place, the bolder elements were cut for fear of being too adult and whole developmental sequences were excised to the benefit of inferior characters and plot-lines.
Sure, there were some redeeming factors - like Jai Courtenay's Captain Boomerang and some of what Margot Robbie did as Harley Quinn (and the dependable comfort of Will Smith being Will Smith) - but the whole was undermined horribly by some stunningly idiotic creative decisions.
