1. Mother's Day

Worst Films Of 2016

Like the equally numb-brained Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve, this Holiday Event movie was little more than an exercise in pulling in famous faces in the hope that their collective star power would be a bigger draw than the god-awful material they were given to act with. With that in mind, the studio and writers didn't bother with anything as subtle as characterisation or building a likability factor or even writing a script that was even remotely engaging.

Mother's Day is the epitome of bland, mindless film-making, an offensive, empty vessel that no more than goes through the motions, pretending to be a real film and not a collection of badly made Hallmark commercial vignettes that barely land a successful emotional beat. This is manipulative cinema at its worst - designed solely to trade on the false emotional pull of taking your mother to see it on "her special day" and cynically marketed as an answer to that sort of requirement.

If you really hate your mother that much, maybe you should just cut her out of her life. It will be less painful for everyone.
