20 Worst Movies Of 2016

The pat few years has not been a great time for belated sequels: Zoolander, Independence Day and Dumb & Dumber, and the news that Wedding Crashers 2 is set for a big screen release too shouldn't really fill anyone with too much confidence.

Bad Santa 2 isn't the worst of those recent atrocities (as you will come to discover very soon), but it is yet another sequel stretch that absolutely didn't need to happen. The original was a hilarious, outrageous anti-Christmas movie (with a pretty clever festive message) that landed the perfect acerbic, vulgar punches but balanced it with a liberal splash of heart.

The follow-up crucially fails to deliver on the balance: it's puerile and full of poop jokes and silliness, but it doesn't feel like it cares the same way, and there's an inherent nastiness (and a more than faint whiff of sexism) that makes it all pretty difficult to take. It's hard not to wish they hadn't left Willie well alone.
