20 Worst Movies Of 2017 (So Far)

20. Baywatch

Baywatch Dwayne Johnson Zac Efron
Paramount

The Rock might very much be of the opinion that critics don't matter - and to a certain extent he's correct (at least when he's talking about his own movies - but no amount of brand power can get around the fact that Baywatch isn't very good.

It was always a difficult prospect to take, since the original show was more cultish than great (and didn't really warrant a remake whether nostalgic or not), but the first trailer seemed to suggest it might actually be surprisingly entertaining. The problem is that the final film wasn't as good as that teaser, and while Johnson is eminently watchable, little else is.

The jokes are stupid, cheap and largely unfunny, there's a commitment to puerility that wasn't part of the original at all and the plot makes the show look like the work of James Joyce by comparison. It's all perfect proof that mankind can't thrive on abs alone.
