20 Worst Movies Of 2017

11. The Great Wall

Almost every year it feels like studios might be trying to break the early months release hoodoo that traditionally sees the worst films of the year dumped out quietly while everyone is focused on the Oscars and trying to shift their Christmas weight. This year, the arrival of The Great Wall surely meant that Universal were defying tradition and releasing a great blockbuster there...?

Yeah, maybe not.

The Great Wall was no trend breaker. It has its moments in action sequences, but again, it's just not the sum of its parts. Matt Damon - controversially cast amidst whitewashing accusations - is okay, but this is nowhere near his best work, nor that of House Of Flyng Daggers director Zhang Yimou.

And fatally, despite being about monsters and historical action, it's just not terribly interesting. In short, it should have been a whole lot better.
