20 Worst Movies Of 2017

8. Smurfs: The Lost Village

One Smurfs film was probably too many for a lot of people, but unfortunately the franchise had already made a staggering $800m in total, so it was inevitable that more would be drawn from that well. And even more inevitable is the fact that this reboot - because, presumably the narrative got too complex to follow or something - was a bland misfire that would appeal to only the youngest of audiences.

And even then, it's so much of a charmless cash-in that that feels like an insult to those kids.

Compared to better animated movies out there - which is an inevitable parallel to make - The Lost Village has none of the appeal to adults that Pixar and Disney manage and it's all terribly unrewarding. It's no more than a brainless babysitter to plonk the kids in front of during the holidays, and only if you don't really like them as much as you pretend to.
