20 Worst Movies Of 2018 (So Far)

11. Midnight Sun

Despite being adapted from a 2006 Japanese romantic drama of the same name, Midnight Sun bears all the hallmarks of a Nicholas Sparks adaptation, with its toe-curlingly schmaltzy tone, near-romantic obsession with death and utter lack of nuance or interest.

To their credit, leads Bella Thorne and Patrick Schwarzenegger - yes, son of Arnold - have decent enough chemistry and aren't unbearable by any means, but they're left stranded in a cheeseball cringe-fest that won't appeal to many beyond the hormone-infused teen demographic.

The film has also been widely lambasted for misrepresenting the protagonist's genetic condition, XP, which prevents her from going into the sunlight. It's basically just used for cheap mad-dash set-pieces and a hideously unearned tear-jerking ending, and you can probably guess what that means.

Worst Moment: Any time Bella Thorne picks up a guitar and sings, which is sadly far too often.
