20 Worst Movies Of 2018 (So Far)

14. Insidious: The Last Key

The only remotely good thing about the fourth (!) Insidious movie is Lin Shaye's reliably steely performance as parapsychologist Elise Rainier. After all, how many horror franchises have ever let a seventy-something actress take the lead role?

Otherwise, The Last Key is mere proof that the franchise has run completely out of steam, relying on the usual mouldy jump scares and parlour tricks. The suspense sequences are airless and anaemic, the perfunctory comic relief is terrible, and it adds little new or interesting to the core mythology.

Though this was planned to be the series' final instalment, a fifth movie was later confirmed after it posted the strongest box office results of the franchise to date. Jeez.

Worst Moment: The howlingly forced romantic subplot between ghostbuster Specs (franchise creator Leigh Whannell) and Elise's niece Imogen (Caitlin Gerard). Just...why?
