20 Worst Movies Of 2019
9. A Madea Family Funeral
It’s hard to weigh up Madea in some ways. This was clearly one of Tyler Perry’s worse outings as the character, but if you enjoy them, you might not find too much to complain about here. That said, if you’re no real fan, you’ll find this one absolutely intolerable. A Madea Family Funeral is basically a poorly cooked piece of broccoli.
It’s the same jokes as before, and frankly there’s only so many times you can tell them. This is the thirteenth outing, not including stage plays, and it hasn’t really evolved. It’s the same jokes over and over, and surely it can only go on for so long.
Tyler Perry has shown his strength as a dramatic actor in rare fits and starts, with supporting roles in the likes of Vice and Gone Girl. He clearly enjoys playing Madea, and taking in $75 million for a $20 million budget, it’s easy to see why.
