The great Naomi Watts is completely wasted in this cornball thriller about a mother desperately attempting to rescue her son when her town is placed on lockdown during a school shooting.

There's little doubting Watts' commitment to the role, but the script and direction just can't measure up to her level, bungling its clearly earnest intent and instead delivering a repetitive, meandering, and eventually rather silly dramatic thriller.

Proof that timely content alone doesn't a good film make, The Desperate Hour is an undercooked stew that never gets out of first gear.
