10. Boon
Since Band of Brothers, Neal McDonough has proven he has what it takes to be a star. Even though Tommy Flanagan gave phenomenal performances in Braveheart, Gladiator, and Sons of Anarchy, he's still not a recognised name. Despite the fact these guys should be Hollywood A-listers, they're barely recognised, mainly because they star in trash like Boon, which currently sits at 0% on Rotten Tomatoes.
This action drama centres around a former mercenary (McDonough) who protects a struggling widow from a persistent crime lord (Flanagan) to atone for his sins. Although the story is by-the-numbers, you expect our leads to elevate the material with their acting chops.
But Boon is such a slow-burner, it feels like it's never going to end. McDonough and Flanagan shine every time they appear, but the story grinds to a half anytime they're not onscreen. Also, the CGI gunfire is so noticeable, it sometimes feel like a student project.
In the right hands, Boon could've been... well... not great, but a mildly entertaining popcorn flick. Sadly, this is an absolute slog, due to the uneven pacing and generic action.
